During his stay at the Proyecto H residency, Paredes spent a month wandering through the neighborhoods of Mexico City, internalizing the distinctive urban iconography that defines the city. The evocation of this diverse landscape takes shape through timeless eclectic elements and a mestizaje of symbols, orchestrating a composition of free association that finds its meaning in the final image. Santiago’s work moves away from clichés and obvious references, instead crafting an “aroma of the thing” rather than “the thing” itself.
